[For ages 14+] Calling all writers! Need motivation to write? Need someone to help keep you accountable for your writing goals? Just want somewhere to share your work or ideas and get feedback?

[For ages 6-14] Minecraft beginners and experts: come build your world and characters in a weekly Minecraft competition with your friends at the APL Washington Ave. Branch.

Join us for bilingual storytime and play! We will be reading books and songs in both English and Spanish. All are welcome to enjoy storytime at the library, where we're Growing Readers.

[For ages 1-4] Please join us for stories, fingerplays, songs, and rhymes for toddlers and their caregiver. After storytime, enjoy unstructured playtime with sensory blocks, cars, balls, and much more!

[For Adults] This class is designed for adult newcomers to Albany who have some basic English language skills and are looking to improve their fluency and communication abilities.

Are you a fiber crafter? Does your family have all the hand knitted or crocheted hats, scarves, mittens, or shawls that they could possibly use in this lifetime? Do you have a passion and skill for making hand-knitted or crocheted garments?

[18+] Join us at the Historical Howe Branch on the first Friday of the month to Watch New or Old Movies! This month's movies are

[For ages 9-17] Play various video games including Smash Brothers, Tekken, NBA 2K22 on the Nintendo Switch or PS4 with your friends! 

[For Ages 13-17] Clash your favorite gaming icons in the ultimate showdown. Tweens and Teens are invited to bring their friends and play Super Smash. Come see if you are good enough to beat our library gamers!

Students’ grades K-12 can meet with a student tutor from the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and University at Albany for a half an hour tutoring session. Tutors can offer homework help, worksheets, and test prep.  

Come try out some of our favorite fidget toys, search through our discovery bins & explore our sensory items! Walk-ins always welcome; no registration necessary.

Learning through play! Playdough playtime is a sensory learning experience for your young child. Kids will learn letters, shapes, numbers, and more while developing their fine motor skills and having fun in the process!

How well do you think you know Albany? Discover Albany and Albany Public Library will be hosting a themed trivia night.

[For ages 0-10 and their caregivers.] Let's have fun with parachutes! We'll listen to music and sing songs while playing with different sized parachutes.

[For adults] Each month, from February to May 2026, join us for a new 1-hour documentary film screening followed by a moderated community conversation organized by WMHT. All films will eventually air on PBS's Independent Lens.
