Historic Albany Foundation - Restoration Faire and Repair Cafe

This year Historic Albany Foundation's traditional Restoration Faire with home restoration help is joined by the Capital Region Repair Cafe run by HAF's Tool Lending Library. Repair Cafes started in the Netherlands and have taken the world by storm, providing resources for people who want to reuse their household items and favorite clothing instead of toss them in the bin to buy new. There will be repairers who can sharpen knives and scissors, repair clothing and textiles, jewelry, electronics, wooden items, toys, and more.

Under the big tent, will be tablers with resources for restoring and maintaining historic houses. Speak to people from from the Albany County Land Bank Corporation, Affordable Housing Partnership, City of Albany Buildings & Regulatory Compliance, Historic Resources Commission/Planning Department,  Architectural Parts Warehouse, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Love Your Block Grant Program, National Association of Women In Construction, NYS Office of Parks Recreation & Historic Preservation, Old Albany Real Estate, Realty ONE Group Key, Saratoga Joinery, Tool Lending Library, Water Department (Lead Pipe Replacement Program), Yamin Real Estate Group. There will also be demonstrations on window glazing and painting, plaster molding creation, screen repair, and wood epoxy repairs. 

There will be a noon panel discussion with an all female panel including a Tool Librarian and real estate agent Daina Green, contractor Kelsea Adams, and DIY expert and social media influencer Mehak Jamil. Panelists will discuss the key things they have learned during their projects and field questions from the audience. This year the Restoration Faire and Repair Cafe will also be featuring family friendly carnival style games such as baluster ring tosses, tile matching games, hardware tic-tac-toe, and vintage toilet beanbag tosses.

This event is completely free with complimentary ice cream from Stewart’s Shops, hot dogs and burgers courtesy of APD, and cold beverages.
