Today, Crailo State Historic Site is considered an important architectural landmark and historic resource focused on the Dutch Colonial experience, but the site would not exist today without the determined efforts of Susan de Lancey van Rensselaer Strong. In 1899, Susan, a descendant of Hendrick van Rensselaer (who built Crailo in 1707), purchased the badly deteriorated building, saving it from demolition. Susan also greatly contributed to research on the history of Dutch New York, Crailo, and the van Rensselaer family. Join Crailo Historic Interpreter Loretta Tucker to learn about the history of Crailo and the woman who saved it.
