Finding Utopia: Learn about how the local Watervliet Shakers and other nearby upstate groups sought new ways of defining Community, from the late 1700s into the mid 1800s.  In the early years of the New Republic, there was a vibrant movement that came to be called The Great Awakening. Ann Sayers, a local independent scholar and author, has spent years researching the Believers who lived in “ Wisdom’s Valley,” as the Shaker community sometimes called itself.
