Please join us for this exciting new FFAPL book talk series, Albany Unbound: Local Authors and Entrepreneurs Break Boundaries with Words.
Our guest this week is Tyrell Hughes, author of Just A Kid From Arbor Hill (JAKFAH). His book is a blueprint more than it is a memoir about someone’s life. This book is a blueprint to understanding the mindset of a young adult trying to navigate their way out of negative circumstances.
Often, we look at the negative decisions our young adults make without factoring in those outside variables like neighborhood, mentors, family dynamics or household income that influence their behavior. JAKFAH touches on everything from drugs, gangs, sex and the power of peer pressure but it also provides us all with a roadmap of how to go from being labeled a troubled at-risk teen to an adult living a life of purpose.
Tyrell’s vulnerability forces us all to take an introspective look at how we navigated our own circumstances and we can see vicariously through his stories that nobody reaches success all by themselves.
